I began making games with Unity 2.x in 2009 as a hobby, which later became a business venture. Since 2015, I have transformed that hobby into a professional career, spanning multiple releases across mobile platforms and a console title. Throughout the years I have cultivated an extensive understanding of game development, having run my own studio, and worked in medium-sized teams on multi-year projects.
I had the pleasure of working on one of my personal favourite franchises, Star Trek! This was a big milestone for me as it was the first project that I was the lead developer, from the day it was concepted. So, I was the decision maker and manager of the programmers on the team. We had 3 programmers, with others dropping in and out when we needed some extra manpower.
I’m most proud of this project because we won an industry award for “Best Storytelling” at the 2023 Pocket Gamer Mobile Game Awards. The team did an amazing job, especially our writing team (of course!).
Duties
This was our first project that was a multi-platform console release. I assisted at the beginning of the project with Switch optimisation. Later in the project, I did more optimisation work on the textures, which significantly helped with build size bloat and runtime performance. I also worked on the death screen, adding tweens and animation events.
